Port Glasgow is located on the west
coast of Scotland, on the river Clyde. It is famous for it's
Clydesdale horses. It is 20 minutes from one of the largest
cities on Scotland, Glasgow. As ships would came up the river to
Glasgow, they would have to go through the port, thus the name
Port Glasgow. It is a small town, with a population of about
22,500. In the old days the economy depended on shipbuilding and
marine engineering. The first steamboat in the world, the Comet,
was built here, and it is now in the town center for all to see.
The economy of today depends on factories, making such items as
parts for computers. It is reported that John Paul Jones, the
father of the U.S. Navy, was born here, and about five monutes
away James Watt, the inventor of the steam engine was born.
